What it does
Solar panels generate electricity for your home, so you buy less from EWA and your bill goes down.
Panels generate electricity during the day
While the sun is up, your home runs on what the panels produce. At night, and on overcast days, your electricity comes from EWA's grid as it does today. Solar reduces your bill rather than removing it.
Electricity you don't use is credited to you
Under EWA's net metering policy, anything your panels produce that you don't use goes back to the grid and is credited to your account in kWh. That credit is then applied against what you use in the months that follow.
What it costs
The system is paid for once, when it is installed. After that the only costs are cleaning and occasional servicing.
One payment, at installation
There is no monthly charge for the system itself. How long the savings take to cover what you paid depends on how much electricity you use today, which is what this tool estimates for you.
Cleaning and servicing after that
Panels need washing several times a year, more often in dusty months, to keep producing at full output. The inverter is normally replaced once over the system's 25-year life.
What you need
Before a system can be installed you need enough clear roof space, and a contractor approved by EWA to carry out the work.
Unshaded roof space
A 10 kW system needs roughly 65 m² of clear roof. Walls, water tanks and neighbouring buildings that cast shade reduce how much the panels produce, so your contractor will size the system to the space you actually have.
An EWA-approved contractor
Contact a contractor from EWA's approved list. They survey the roof, design and quote the system, submit the request to EWA, and install it.
